Abstract:
The boom of KM (KM) over recent decade and the emergence of some success stories in this area such as Hewlett Packard and GM have shifted the attention of scholars and practitioners toward the success stories of KM. However, many organizations fail in their attempt to take advantage from KM initiatives. In spite of numerous documented successes stories, KM failures stories are not well studied and theorized in the literature. In this paper, we try to identify the most important pitfalls in which organizations might fall during the implementation of KM projects. Having conducted several case studies in Iran, some of the roots of such failures are discussed and lessons are drawn for managers to help them avoid such possible problems.
